Regulating flow

Globe valves for steam, fuel and process regulation

Stable throttling for steam, fuel and process lines. Cast and forged, ½" to 24".

Cast steel flanged globe valve

Overview

A globe valve moves a plug onto a seat in the centre of the body, which gives fine, repeatable control of flow. It is the standard choice wherever a line has to be throttled by hand: steam headers, fuel oil, boiler blowdown, cooling-water balancing and sampling points.

We supply cast steel globe valves to BS 1873 and ASME B16.34, and forged steel globe valves to API 602, with bolted bonnets, outside screw and yoke, and plug or needle discs. Bellows-sealed globe valves are available for fugitive-emission service, and pressure-seal designs for Class 900 and above.

Our stock covers the materials Pakistani power plants and refineries specify most often: WCB for general service, WC6 and WC9 for high-temperature steam, CF8M for corrosive duty, and A105, F11, F22 and F316 for forged valves.

Typical applications

  • Steam headers, drains and blowdown in power plants
  • Fuel oil and gas supply to burners and turbines
  • Cooling-water balancing and control stations
  • Boiler feedwater recirculation
  • Chemical dosing and sampling lines
  • Hydrocarbon process throttling

Frequently asked questions

Which direction should flow enter a globe valve?

Normally under the disc (flow-to-open), which is marked by an arrow on the body. For some high-temperature steam duties the manufacturer specifies flow over the disc; we confirm this on the datasheet.

Why is the pressure drop higher than a gate valve?

The flow path turns twice inside a globe valve body. That is what gives it good control, at the cost of a higher pressure loss. Where the valve will only ever be fully open, a gate valve is the better choice.

Can you supply bellows-sealed globe valves?

Yes, for fugitive-emission and toxic service, with the bellows tested to the relevant EN or API standard.
